![]() I should have my control unit back by the end of next week and when the weather gets nice enough for a test, I will take it out on the back roads a little for a flogging and then give a full report. I just finished flushing out the entire cooling system after 4 years of original stock coolant and replaced it with "Ice water" racing coolant. I am looking forward mostly as mentioned to the nasty popping and backfiring being gone for good along with no more hesitation and glitches, smoother running operation and cooler running temps. I mailed mine USPS and the insurance was only 13 bucks. It is something that fits right in the palm of your hand, so very compact. I was able to push it up a little from the bottom too. It is in there snuggly surrounded by protective rubber so be careful! Work it out slowly. You take off the connectors, then pull the basket out and then carefully pull up the ECU and slide it out, leaving the relay in the basket. It sits inside a little basket with a relay side by side stuffed in there together. The unit is under the seat inside the battery box on the left side. I'm 100% confident that you people will be very happy with the work that we have done. People can research some of the other cruisers that I have done on their respective message boards. Guys with pipes will be able to say goodbye permanently to all the popping and backfiring. Throttle response and control is very much improved over stock programming. The first and most noticeable improvement is how much quicker it revs. All the benefits are the same.ĭriveability is the most noticeable improvement for all setups. I will be watching this thread and see how others like this with a stock set up.ĭon't waste your money on another ECU. Maybe if it was just a visible inspection I would pass without them knowing. It makes sense to just do mine and hope that California doesn't start with inspections. Ivan's FJR flash is here and it works. Thanks for that info. Cruise control works, no feel for fuel mileage yet with the short rides. Overall the engine is smooth and responsive regardless of which drive mode is running. It's going to be my new favorite! Touring and Sport modes keep the same throttle response but with better feel due to the new fuel/ignition maps. Linear throttle, not as stupid aggressive as Sport but allows a smooth controlled rush as the revs build. I would say it's now on par with a C14 for smoothness. Bar vibration / tingle *seems* to be reduced even further. Removing the HVMP bar ends and adding VStrom hand guards helped dampen things down. My '15 has never been particularly smooth, always had a tingle through the bars. I purposely slowed down more than normal for a couple 2nd gear corners, the transition back to throttle was flawless. The off-on throttle transition is much better than stock. Riding it feels like a race-horse straining at the reins, poised and ready to run.ĭriveability is improved. Engine *feels* more willing, alive, playful.ready to rev. Wife says the bike has a different (throatier) sound now. First, rest assured we didn't lose any of that wonderful low end torque. The flash simply builds on that and continues to pull harder all the way up. Hard for me to put the description in words. With work and the time available, my (two) rides have been limited to my favorite twisty back roads so there hasn't been much opportunity for higher speeds. I'll fess up first.my flashed ECU came yesterday and I held out on y'all to get another ride in today.
